Earlier in the week the FPRC crew embarked on a cold, wet and dark run around central London. It wasn’t all doom and gloom though, as our friends over at Nnormal joined us in hosting a wear test event for their much loved trail shoe the Tomir 2.0.
We gave our runners a chance to take these consciously made trail shoes out for a test drive and a friendly natter on the streets. Rain or shine the FPRC team got the job done and the miles in to get their week set off right.
Huge thank you to the Nnormal team for teaching us a bit more about the brand and letting us share your message to our community.

The modern marathon is rich in history across the globe. Before we delve deeper into its roots, there are few key points to highlight for those who aren’t quite sure what a marathon is:
- The total distance of a marathon is 42.2km (26.2miles).
- Predominately a road race, although you are able to find marathon races that are trail based.
- Most cities host their own marathon.
- There are only 6 races (now 7) considered to be world majors – New York, Chicago, Berlin, Tokyo, Boston & London (Sydney has now been added to the list for 2025).
Some of these races have been taking place for 50+ years but the origins of this historic distance dates back to a greek legend from 460BC. Where an Athenian messenger by the name of Pheidippides ran from the battle grounds of Marathon to Athens to pass on a message of victory. Pheidippides soon died after arrival to Athens.
It wasn’t until the founding of the Modern Olympics in 1896, where the story of Pheidippides was later used as catalyst to create what we now know as the Marathon during the first games hosted in Athens. A true endurance test to push athletes above and beyond.
Fun Fact for our sneaker enthusiasts! The first gold medal was given to a greek competitor by the name of Spyridon Louis. His name was later used as the inspiration and title of the famed Nike Air Spiridon.
