Exploring the Salomon XT‑4: everything you need to know

16.07.26 General

First introduced in 2019, the Salomon XT-4 was created with functionality and trail running in mind, yet it’s seamlessly transitioned into a lifestyle staple. Merging technical performance with everyday wearability, the silhouette offers durability and grip that works just as well on city streets as it does on rocky pathways. We’ve put together everything you need to get to know the XT-4 a little better.

Are Salomon XT‑4 Waterproof?

While the standard Salomon XT‑4 is not fully waterproof, it’s built with a breathable mesh upper designed to perform in harsher weather conditions. For reliable water resistance, the GTX editions provide an extra layer of protection with GORE-TEX technology, ensuring your feet stay dry even on those wet days.

How Do Salomon XT‑4 Fit?

Generally fitting true to size, the Salomon XT-4 has a narrower fit than you might be used to, so if you have wider feet, we recommend sizing up at least half a size. Thanks to its narrow fit, the design offers a snug, stable ride to keep you protected on uneven terrain.

Salomon XT‑4 vs XT‑6 – What’s the Difference?

When comparing the XT-4 to the XT-6, although objective, there are notable differences between the pairs. Starting with the XT-4, the model has a lighter yet bulkier build, and in more recent seasons Salomon has leaned into bolder colour schemes and gradients, while the XT-6 sticks to solid colourblocking with a more cushioned, technical feel. Both silhouettes originate from the same trail running lineage but now lend themselves more to the lifestyle space.

Salomon XT‑4 vs XT‑Whisper – What’s the Difference?

Another silhouette from the XT line, the XT-4 shares similarities with the XT-Whisper. Both have a lightweight feel; however, the XT-Whisper was originally designed for women and today prioritises a softer, fashion-forward aesthetic that fits easily into a casual wardrobe. Like the XT-6, the XT-Whisper has a slightly different fit and level of cushioning.

Are Salomon XT‑4 Comfortable?

It’s safe to say that comfort is a hallmark of the Salomon XT-4. It may not be designed with the plush softness of some lifestyle silhouettes, but what it does have is a supportive base that cradles the foot and offers lasting lightweight comfort that keeps you going over rugged terrain and city streets alike.

Salomon XT‑4 Alternatives

Although the XT-4 stands out in its own right, there are other alternatives to consider if you’re exploring options. The popular XT-6 with its additional cushioning is always a solid choice, but if you’re looking for something completely different, try the X-ALP, ACS Pro, or the RX Marie-Jeanne.

The Salomon XT-4 is a versatile design that feels at home on both rocky trails and urban landscapes. Its blend of durability, grip and aesthetic appeal makes it an easy choice for any wardrobe, proving that fashion and functionality can coexist seamlessly.

adidas Originals x Footpatrol Megaride AG

13.07.26 Launches

Continuing its partnership with adidas, Footpatrol applies its Shades of Black project to the Y2K Megaride AG runner. Stripping things back with a tonal execution, the design shifts the focus towards the silhouette’s sculptural tooling and technical roots.

Employing a monochromatic lens to the retro-futurist model, the collaboration sees the Megaride wrapped in varying black hues with mixed-material uppers that combine open mesh, rubberised overlays and a premium leather lacing chamber. Reflective accents illuminate the laces and 3-Stripes while FP’s Gasmask works itself across the tongue, sidewall and footbed, cementing the collab without disrupting the shoe’s aesthetic. Underfoot, the chunky sole houses propulsive Megaride cushioning that defined the silhouette on its debut, bringing archival adidas running innovation into a contemporary lifestyle setting.
