The Air Max 90 silhouette is arguably the most marketable Air Max model since its first release. With a wide range of colourways, renditions, collaborative projects in its catalogue, the Air Max 90 serves as an iconic and popular pair to the masses.

Released in 1990, it was originally named the ‘Air Max III’ due to it being the 3rd instalment in the revolutionary Air Max line. Dressed is a Radiant Red, the shoe was initially created for performance but as time went on, it became a staple to lifestyle culture. Since its first release, the Air Max III didn’t launch again until 2001, and when it did, it came with some slight changes. The name developed into ‘The Air Max 90’ as well as the colourway being dubbed ‘Infrared’ as opposed to Radiant Red. After these changes, the now known ‘Infrared’ garnered a cult following. Releases became somewhat frequent and became a household name with projects like the History of Air (HOA) collection. In addition the Infrared silhouette has become a canvas for new innovation such as Engineered Mesh and Hyperfuse technology to Lunarlon. However, the natural state of “OG” is what consumers generally look forward to.

This time in 2020, for its 30th anniversary, Nike are back with the cult favourite. In 2019, Nike launched its “Recrafted” engineering which is a reverting back to the original materials and shape of the silhouette, going as far as adding the medial stitching across the mid-panels. To celebrate the 30th anniversary, Nike have gone back to its roots by going back to its original name and colourway along with the box.

Featuring a combination of signature materials such as mesh and suede, the upper is dressed in light grey and white with the Swoosh in a darker shade of grey. Black leather takes the mudguard whilst the vibrant Radiant Red is placed on the midsole wedge, eyelets, mudguard logo and the iconic Air Max 90 badge on the heel. Rounding off the celebration is a white midsole as well as a black and Radiant Red outsole to complete the closest rendition to its original form.
